The Big South-OVC announced their weekly football honors and two Tennessee State players garnered the weekly accolades. Quarterback Draylen Ellis was named Offensive Player of the Week and kicker James Lowery was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

In the Tigers’ 41-21 season-opening win over Mississippi Valley in the John Merritt Classis, Ellis completed 21-of-31 passes for a career-high 356 yards and three touchdowns. In helping the Tigers surge to a 31-0 halftime lead over the Delta Devils, Ellis was 17-24 for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns, numbers that bested his high water marks from all of last season.

Lowery was a perfect 2-2 on field goal attempts, (20 and 32 yards) and connected on all 5 of his PATs in Tennessee State’s Week 1 41-21 win over Mississippi Valley State. Two of his 8 kickoffs went for touchbacks.
